Terence Tan (Section 5)
I have been in the Usher Ministry for 4 to 5 months already. I still remember 4/5 months ago, as a young Christian, I had a desire to serve the LORD and decided to serve in a ministry. “So which ministry should I serve in?” was the question then, and I wanted to join the Strike Force for I felt my passion and interest was there. But when I told my CGL about it, she told me to pray first and ask God whether that was where He wanted me to go.
After praying, God actually showed me that I should join the Usher Ministry and doubt began to creep in. I kept asking God if that is really the ministry He wants me to serve in as I was actually quite resistant to the idea, due to the many stories and myths about bad treatment one receives as an usher.
Nevertheless, I decided to put my trust in God and obey His direction. When I reported for my first day of ushering, it really changed my entire picture about the ministry. My fellow ushers are very nice, helpful and like one big family. People are so eager to serve the Lord and love can be felt there as we look out for one another. I have learned a lot of things like humility, people skills, communication, boldness, leadership, executing authority, courage, management, patience and character-building, and being responsible for my actions. I have always read the Bible and listened to a lot of sermons, but the Usher Ministry is really a good place for me to apply all that I have learned. I have grown a lot spiritually and naturally. I thank God for directing me into this ministry. He always has a reason for putting us in the place where He wants us to go.
I am a businessman and as I serve in the ministry, my business has grown bigger and my team has grown from glory to glory, because the Bible says:
“And whether you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance, for you serve the LORD Christ.” – Colossians 3:23
“…Well done, good and faithful servant, you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things, enter into the joy of your (LORD).” – Matthew 25:23
Yes and Amen! So whether you are a student, businessman, housewife, employee, the Usher Ministry is a good environment for you to grow as a person and it serves as a launching pad to excel in any area of your life. Like Pastor Kong says, your experience will not be wasted. You will also get a lot of blessings when you serve for there is power in humility -- just like what it says in Colossians 3:23, this is a ministry where you learn to be humble. It also teaches you how to be faithful (Matthew 25:23). So that is why my business is growing and my team is submitting to me. Praise the Lord, Amen!
So I challenge you to come into the Usher Ministry first to build your faith, humility and character before you move on to others for you will be surprised by the growth that you’ll get here.
